How To Start An Online Business For Beginners

The majority of people that try to build a Work-At-Home Internet Business usually fail at making money on the internet for one reason or another. In this Online Business Guide For Beginners, I’ll show you How To Start An Online Business From Home Successfully and as close to free as possible.

As well as how to help your business stand the test of time and Google’s Ranking Algorithms so that it can be passed down to your future generations.

After all, if you don’t already have little ones of your own then chances are you will soon enough.

Steps To Starting An Online Business From Home For Beginners

So regardless the category you fall under, devoted Mothers and Fathers or footloose and fancy-free, we all want more free time at home and want more money to spend.

Creating a Business Online From Home can help you with both as well as take care of your financial needs and wants for many years to come.

I know this because I was laid off from my job many years ago and it led me to search for the very same thing you are seeking out now.

How To Start An Online Home Business From Home For Beginners!

I followed the steps I’m going to be showing you below, and as a result, I am now a Full-Time stay at home parent earning a pretty decent Full-Time living online.

Trust me when I say that if I can learn to earn online then so can you.

If you’ve read my WA Income Proof Article than you’re aware of how little I knew about computers, let alone anything about online money making opportunities.

Anyways, that’s enough of all that because you’re not here to learn about me or why I Started Honest Online Money.

You’re here to learn how to Build a Home-Based Business Online for free or at the very least with little investment.

I say little investment because while there are many many free website options out there on the world wide web very few of them will rank you where you need to be to cash in on Google’s free search traffic.

Unfortunately for that reason, there’s no way to get around having to pay for a domain name of your own and the hosting that will go with it.

There are some platforms you could utilize for free but they would seriously hinder your ability to rank high enough in search engines to get any free traffic.

Not to mention that you would have little to no control over the design of your site.

As a quick side note, you could start building out your website or web business on a free platform and then carry that over to a paid domain at a later date.

How To Start An Online Business From Home Beginners Guide

So starting an online home based business from scratch is not a quick set and forget project.

There are a variety of different internet business models that you can choose from and all of them can get you on the road to making money on the internet from the comfort of your own home.Start An Online Business From Home Beginners Guide

After you get your business set up and you begin the monetizing process you’ll find that the business model you picked will not be the only model you utilize.

The reason for this is to maximize earning potential and is not at all uncommon.

So let’s get down to the steps that all successful websites and businesses used to elevate themselves to financial online stardom.

How To Start An Online Business From Home Beginners Guide-Step #1

Choose A Business Type– Being the educated person you are I’m sure you already know you can’t really start anything, including an online business, if you don’t first know what it is you’re wanting to do.

As well as a solid plan for how to get there.

So, to get yourself started off on the right foot you’ll need to know which online career path is…

  1. right for you and your particular skill set
  2. appealing to you and your interests in life
  3. one that you possess some knowledge of

I would urge you to pick a business type that you can have a bit of fun building and not worry so much about the amount of money you could make.

How To Start an Online Business From Home

There are a few reasons for this but mainly it boils down to an old saying that I didn’t fully grasp in my younger years.

“If You Enjoy You’re Work Than You Never Really Work A Day In Your Life.”

Think about it!

When was the last time (other than getting out of bed for work) that you started doing something that didn’t really peak your interest?

I’m going to guess that it did not take you long after starting it to give it up and forget about it, Right!

The same principle applies here as well. You will be growing this into something that you will be doing for the rest of your life so why not make it something that you enjoy getting out of bed to do.

Beginners Guide To Starting An Online Business From Home-Step #2

Churn The Genius Juices– Or in other words use your vivid imagination to come up with a one of a kind idea that will either…

  1. fill a need no other business is filling
  2. come up with a new way or a better way to fill a need that exists but needs to be improved uponGuide To Starting An Online Home Business For Beginners

All organizations and businesses that are a success today started out as no more than a twinkle in their maker’s eye and they all have one thing in common!

They all had a creative and unique new way to fill a consumer need in their respective niches and markets.

I will use an example I have already given, Netflix.

Granted their competition (Cable and Satellite TV Companies) is still standing but the amount of revenue they have lost to Netflix and other services that sprung up because of them is in the billions.

They basically took nothing more than an idea and turned it into a worldwide movement.

The same could very well be said about you and your idea one day.

Naming and Narrowing– Now that you’ve used your brilliance to come up with a one of a kind idea it is time for you to call upon your brilliant mind yet again.

Only this time you’ll be shifting gears a bit to come up with a flashy name that will stick on the ends of people’s tongues and be something that they’ll not be able to easily forget.

However, when you’re picking your entity’s name you want to keep the best SEO practices in mind and do your best to try to incorporate keywords that are going to be prominent in your respected niche.

This will pay off for you when you start creating content you want to be ranked highly in search engines.

You’ll also want to create a catchy tagline for your new business as well as a logo that will not only catch the eye of the average person scrolling the internet but be something that they just can’t get out of their heads.

Kind of like those old commercials that had the addictive songs. You know the ones, call 1-800-993, well you get the point I’m trying to make.

How To Start An Online Business From Home

Anywho…

You also will want to make your business more easily rankable in search engines in its infancy and a good way to do that is by drilling down.

Or as I just called it Narrowing!

Narrowing down your idea to a specific niche audience is not a must but it will help ensure that your customers can easily find you in search engines.

As well as help you get some free organic search traffic of those folks that don’t yet know how much better and simpler their life would be with the help of your online business.

Now after you gain some credibility and authority within your niche you will also notice that the content you create will begin ranking much easier than before.

When you reach that level you won’t have to worry as much about narrowing your audience and instead start targeting other products in your niche.

All while still being able to compete with the top businesses in your corner of the market.

Beginners Guide To Starting An Online Business From Home-Step #4

Design & Create– Having a one of a kind world famous idea will mean nothing if you do not have an easy to navigate place for these like-minded consumers to congregate and utilize your creatively unique idea.

When designing your online business’s new home you’re going to again want to consider making it SEO friendly.

If you don’t know where to start with SEO Friendly Websites than try these Best Website Builders For Beginners.

While SEO is very important to optimize for when you’re trying to start an online business with little or no investment you must make sure that you don’t put SEO above User Experience.

After all, you want your customers to be able to find whatever they’re looking for fast and easy.

The easier it is for them to find what they want, the better your chances are of not only converting them into a customer but turning that customer into a return customer.

Just something for you to consider as a business owner.

Online Business Guide For Beginners-Step #5

Create Content– Having a catchy name, a beautifully constructed website, and a one in a million idea is great but without unique quality content being published regularly than reaching your audience will be next to impossible.Beginners Guide To Starting An Online Business

Especially if you’re trying to do so on a shoestring budget!

The good news is, it is not all that hard to create quality content and if you know a little bit about how to create it than ranking on the 1st page of the SERP’s will come easier with every piece you publish.

There are many ways you can learn to do this and I highly recommend you learn this process because it will be well worth your time.

On a side note, be very careful when it comes to buying articles for your online business because a lot of the sites selling them are selling articles that they have duplicated many times over.

How To Start Online Business From Home For Beginners-Step #6

Spread The Word With Marketing– Successfully marketing your brand is done in many different ways by utilizing a variety of different channels.

Because of this, I recommend that you go ahead and take the time needed to do the following things that’ll help you to spread the word in a very cost-effective manner.

  1. Choose the best social media platforms for your business (To Start) and under the name of your online business.

This list will begin to grow as your business grows but to help you manage your workload starting out just set up the 2 to start.

2. Design a Social Media Marketing Plan for your business to better understand how you’re going to go about using your new social media platforms.

i.e.

  • Paid or Free advertising
  • Customer Service &Support
  • Generating sales/leads
  • Driving Traffic
  • B2B
  • B2C

Understanding that most of us just starting out can’t afford much extra for paid advertising but that is why I suggest you make one of your social media outlets on Facebook.

The reason for this, other than the obvious reason of everyone 18-65 having a personal Facebook account, is because the price for running brand awareness ads is extremely affordable.

Which will allow you to reach 1,000’s of potential new customers daily.

3. Learn all you can about SEO and how to optimize content for proper On-Page-SEO tactics.

This is free to do and can be found online thru a few simple Google Searches.

Not to mention that when you get it right it will drastically increase your free organic traffic from the Big 3 Search Engines, Google, Bing, and Yahoo by landing your content on the 1st page of their search results.

How To Create An Online Business From Home Beginners Guide

4. Raise awareness about your new online business around where you live.

The cheapest way to do this is to go to your nearest library, use their printers, your creativity and create flyers that you can leave at high traffic areas in your town or city.

Another approach would to be to leave those same flyers in random library books for people to find later on when the book gets checked out.

Believe it or not that usually guarantees a visit from the person that found it.

Building An Online Home Business For Beginners-Step #7

Monetize– You didn’t put in all of this hard work for nothing and the bills won’t get paid by good intentions and dreams.

This step is done by most folks a lot earlier on but those same folks have a much bigger wallet than I did when I first started out.

For all I know those Silver Spoon Fed bleeps still do.

The reason I say to wait is because it’s so much easier to rank content that does not have affiliate links of some kind or another in it.

You will learn more about this when you strike out on your own to learn more about SEO and what are considered SEO Best Practices.

Another reason for waiting to monetize is so that you don’t overcompensate within your content to sell whatever it is you’re selling.

Besides, monetizing your content is the easiest part of the whole process and you never have to worry about not being able to find an affiliate program or an eCommerce wholesaler to buy from.

The internet literally has 100’s upon 100’s of just about any kind of money generating programs or online warehouse you can think of.

  1. This article is good advice if you are just starting out building an online business from scratch. It is all so overwhelming at first, a website, learning a new CMS like WebPress and after that how to get traffic.

Once you get past these hurdles it all starts to fall into place and becomes much easier to manage.

Thanks for the great article and I hope it encourages others to take action!

  2. This is such a great introduction to working from home. You cover so much information here that I feel like I could get up and running in no time.

I know there is more to this and there is a lot of hard work. What is the best affiliate marketing program or training online in your opinion?

Do I need to be a good writer to do well?

How long does it take the average dedicated worker to start making some significant money?

I don’t mean to bother you with a lot of questions but this is pretty new to me.

    1. Rick,

You don’t need to be a professional writer or anything like that.

It will take you some time to be successful and by the time you start making decent money (7-12 months) you will be much better at it.

If you type that phrase in the search box above you will find what you’re looking for.

Thanks for dropping by and if you have any further questions I will be glad to help.
      Jason

  3. It’s encouraging to read this!

I’m just beginning in the frontier of trying to make a living online. I really haven’t made much yet, but I’m still working on building my site.

How much did social media affect what you were trying to do?? Did you find that to be pretty essential? How much content did you have on your site before you started your social media campaigns?

    Thanks.

    1. Jordan,

Hang in there bud, it will happen for you if you stay persistent and focused on your end goals and results.

Social Media Marketing is the great equalizer of online business building.

Especially for us little guys (Small Business) because if we had to compete on just a monetary level the big companies like Amazon and Wal-Mart would eat us alive.

It also helps to have a much more technology savvy customer base like what makes up the biggest percentage of the market today.

People don’t just click and buy the first dealls they see anymore and they are more inclined to go outside the realm of big business to make their purchases.

Which is why you should start your social media campaign as soon as you start setting up your business.

It is essential to your online business’s growth.

That same savvy consumer also finds a lot of what they trust from Social Media.

I don’t remember exactly how much content I had published but I do know that everything I put out had hours and hours worth of research and fact checking in it.

It’s not always about how much content as it is about the quality of it.

So do not hesitate to begin spreading the word about your business as soon as there is a business to spread the word about.

Thanks for stopping in and best of luck to you Jordan,
      Jason

  4. I wish I would have had this advice when I first started out online. I had no idea what I was doing, and as a result I made some mistakes that hindered my progress.

I couldn’t agree more with your process and steps laid out, with a bit of experience under me now, I can say that your info is reminding and confirming for me.

I have tried a few of your suggested courses, namely ClickBank University and Wealthy Affiliate, of which both are great choices for added information and trainings.

Best of luck! Thanks for the info.

  5. Hey there,

I have been thinking about launching an online business this month, but I really suck at writing content for the website.

I have also seen that you don’t recommend getting articles written for you by most freelance sites. What is the best alternative for someone who really feels content writing will be an issue for them?

    1. Dave,

Sorry for the delay. I took a little vacation and unplugged from the world.

I assure you that you’re not as bad at writing as you think you are!

This is a question and statement that I hear from a lot of my clients and 99% of the time they come to realize that they are not as bad at it as they believed.

But in the case of the 1% I tell them all the same.

Try asking a friend or a loved one too partner up with you and put your thoughts into words.

Or take the time to reach out to a few different folks on fiverr or upwork and send them a few key points to include in an article and of course the title you want it wrote for and try to find one that does best.

Be Sure You PROOFREAD every article in its entirety.

There are some really great writers out there but it might take you a bit to find them.

Other than that I would just do it yourself and after you write a few you just might find that you like it.

      Until Next Time,
      Jason

  6. Thank you for explaining in an honest way the process of making money online.
I like what you mentioned that its not something to be achieved overnight but after putting a lot of groundwork in a consistent way.
Thanks, also, for the information about the 4 online courses recommended for beginners. There is a lot to take home from your article!

  7. There is certainly lot to do to build an online business and it is very good to see what those steps are in your article.
I like the idea of starting out with not much cash since I have very little to invest at this time.
What I have got is several hours a day to invest in learning these skills.
How much time do you think it takes, on a daily / weekly basis, I mean?
I guess I need a PC and internet access at home since the library access is limited to an hour a day.
Thanks for laying it out like this. It gives me a good idea of what to plan to create my own business.

    1. Your question does not really have a one answer fits all fix.

Obviously the more time you dedicate to building an online business the faster you will see results.

Well, the faster you’ll make money!

When I first started out I spent probably 4 to 6 hours a day, 6 days a week, but I was also just laid off from my job.

So I had plenty of time.

I have helped a few folks that where only working on their business on the weekends and the fastest I even witnessed any of them making money on the internet was 7 months.

That was not their first dollar online mind you and they were not spending any cash on advertising.

Instead that 7 months was the time it took them to start making enough to pay one of their bills.

Like a car payment or rent.

Hope this helped give you a better idea of time frames but these timelines are different depending on quite a few different things.

Which is why I said there is no one answer to this question.

If you have anything else you would like to know just ask,
      Jason

  8. Thank you for all the helpful resources in your beginners guide to starting a online business.

It really helped me start my own business and i got it started for free!

I decided to go with Wealthy Affiliate, and it’s going great. Can’t thank you enough for leading me to that site.

I’d love to know what advice you have to help me get more traffic to my site?

    1. Nekko,

It’s my pleasure and I don’t mind a bit to give you a helping hand.

There are a few ways you can go about this but in order for me to give you the best answer I will need to know a couple of things first.

For instance how much money are you wanting to allocate to getting traffic?
Is this amount a one time  payment or is it something you can do weekly or monthly?
Also, what type of business model are you building online?

Just a one fix all kind of scenario would be paid advertising thru adwords or a social media platform but doing so will get you more traffic but not necessarily more customers.

I see you have chosen WA as a training site to use and because of that, and if you are a premium member, you can find all you need there.

However, I will help you along so just shoot me a message inside of WA and I we will figure out a strategy that best suits your end result.

Talk to you then Nekko. Thanks For reading,
      Jason

  9. Thanks for the beginners guide and the great internet home business courses. I’ve been on the fence about giving it a go for a while now and because of the potential to be scammed I have not followed though.

I went ahead and checked out your recommendations for training and help.

I’m more than willing to put in the work but I would like to know more about the different types of online businesses that would be best to use.

I’ve Bookmarked your site and will be checking back soon to hopefully get an answer.

    Thanks again for the review.

    1. Dave,

First off thanks for coming out and sharing your thoughts!

I am currently in the process of creating a block of content that will answer these and any other questions like them.

It will be live by the end of today or first thing tomorrow so feel free to check back then.

If you still have questions afterwards we can see about setting up a line of communication for me to further assist you.

Just wondering which one of the training sites did you like best?

Besure to check back soon and get in touch if you are still needing help.

I will be glad to do so,
      Jason
