Hello there my soon to be fellow affiliate marketer. Since you are just beginning in affiliate marketing you’re going to need to know how to find a profitable affiliate marketing niche. Some of you may even be wondering What is a niche?
I am asked these questions quite often and I myself had trouble learning how to find the right niche to build a website around.
With this post I am going to help you out with finding a profitable niche by showing the same steps that I use to pick the right market to pitch to.
Before I get into these steps I would like to give some insight as to what is an affiliate marketing niche.
Here is what Wikipedia has to say with their definition of a niche market.
Also I have included a video that you will find below that should help clear up any confusion as to what one of these actually are.
What is a Niche?
So what is a niche and why is it so important to choose the right one for you to build your websites around. Well lets start with the specifics of what a niche is:
- Smaller segment of a market with in a larger market or industry
- Focuses on satisfying a targeted group(Audience) of people in a specific market by price range or production quality
Here is a video that I hope will help you better understand what is an affiliate marketing niche:
A niche can be any product or service in any kind of market. As long as you are helping people with in that market solve a common problem than you stand a very good chance to become master affiliate.
How to Find a Profitable Affiliate Marketing Niche
Now that we have a better understanding of what is an affiliate marketing niche, it is time to go through the steps of how to find one.
When doing this it is a really good idea to pick something that interests you.
This will keep you from getting bored with what you are doing which in turn will lead you to a more profitable business.
Here are the steps that I use.
Step 1 Niche List- In the first step of how to find a profitable affiliate marketing niche we are going to be making a list of niches that are of interest of you.
This can be anything and a good way of making this list is to ask your self some questions like the ones below.
- What are your hobbies
- What do people ask your advise about
- What do you spend the most of your money on
- What problems do you face in your life and how could you solve them
- What are you passionate about
- What are your favorite topics to talk about
Ask your self questions like these until you have 10-20 answers on your list of potential niches.
Remember a niche can be absolutely anything.
So do not rule out any of your answers just yet because you are not only looking for a niche you are looking for a passionate buying audience.
Step 2 Research– In this step we will be researching the list that you made.
Research is an important part of this process because not all of the niches that you are interested in can be monetized(used to make money) and not all keywords for your niche are profitable keywords.
There are quit a bit of niches that have been saturated with marketers and makes it nearly impossible for a beginner to get a foot hold in that niche market.
To ensure that you do not fall victim to any of these scenarios we will research our niches 3 different ways.
First we want to use some Q&A sites to break down our broad niches into smaller more targeted ones.
We can do this by going to the sites that I have listed below and searching the broad keyword that best describes your niche.
For example lets says your hobby is fishing than just go to say yahoo answers and in the search bar type in fishing.
This will give you a list of questions that people are asking about fishing.
From these questions you can narrow down your niche by finding the ones most commonly asked.
An example of this would be people are asking about fly fishing for salmon.
That is a smaller more targeted niche.
Below you will find a list of crowd sourcing sites that will help by showing you topics people are interested in.
Second you want to take a look at the competition and the amount of searches done for the targeted niches that you have found.
You do this the same way that you broke down your niche into smaller segments or like me you can use the Jaaxy keyword research tool.
You want to go to Google and see who is on the first page for the niche that you are wanting to compete in and enter that websites name into the search bar on one of the sites below.
This will tell you the amount of traffic that your competition is getting.
So its safe to say that if your competition is getting an abundance of traffic than so could you.
If you can get good traffic than it will be a good niche to monetize.
Here are a few of the sites that make finding a niche easier by seeing the competitions search traffic.
Lastly lets take our new list of target niches that people are looking for and find out which are profitable enough and which ones might be a bit to competitive for just starting out.
Like any thing you do, the more you do it the better at it you get, so it will not be long before you are competing with the big fish of your small pond.
However the better quality training you get now will greatly impact the amount of success you have in your future affiliate campaigns.
Enough about that lets get to our list…….
So, now we have our niches broke down into smaller segments of the market and we know people are searching for them.
It only makes since now to go see if we can make some money with in them.
We do this by going to find affiliate programs that offer good commissions and products or services related to our niche.
Do this in pretty much the same fashion as the other steps.
Go to the affiliate program site and conduct a search for the keyword that bests describes your niche.
After you have found an affiliate site that offers you the best commissions and popular products that are relevant your website it is time to dive in.
Start making content for your site to put your affiliate link in and start your affiliate marketing adventure.
If you would like to learn more about the best affiliate marketing programs beginners should use than you may read about it here.
If you have any questions or comments post them below and I will get to them as quickly as possible.
All feed back is welcome.
I hope I was able to shed some light on how to find a profitable affiliate marketing niche and was able to help you understand What is a niche. Good Luck.
