Beginners Guide Step #1- Selecting A Profitable Affiliate Marketing Niche

The first steps to starting any successful online business or marketing campaign is to pick a profitable niche.

Affiliate Marketing Guide For Beginners

When starting this step it is essential that you pick a niche that you have decent knowledge of and that is interesting to you.

Choosing a niche that you have knowledge of and that you are interested in will make coming up with and writing your content much easier for you.

The goal in any marketing niche is to become an expert in the field so people will trust your recommendations.

If people trust your opinion you will have a much better sales conversion rate.

All and all the ultimate goal for any marketer is to find a cash cow of a niche.

Step #2- Choosing A Domain Name

Choosing and purchasing a domain name is the second step in our getting started process.

When choosing your domain name it is best to make it relevant to the niche you have chosen.

A good practice for ensuring that your new website gets a bit of a SERP’s ranking boost is to include the keyword or a variation of the keyword that your niche is based around directly in the domain name.

This is called an EMD (Exact Match Domain).

So lets say the niche you have chosen is kids crafts than when you choose your domain name you want to use at least one of the keywords “kids”or “crafts” in the Domain name.

However, studies show, it would be best for SEO purposes if you can use both keywords in your new domain name.

A good note to add here is that you should always triple check the spelling of your domain name to make sure that it is spelled correctly before you make your name official.

Step #3- Building Your Own Affiliate Website

OK, now that you have the domain name you are going to want to build an affiliate website around that domain name in the affiliate niche that you have chosen.

When creating a website it is incredibly important to make your site as user friendly as possible, ensure your visitors can navigate your site easily and brand it in such a way that it sticks out in the mind of anyone who pay it a visit.

If your brand stands out than folks are far more likely to come back the next time they are shopping around for products in your niche.

Which will also lead to visitors mentioning you on social media more often and that in turn will lead to more free traffic.

Beginners Guide To Affiliate Marketing

More Traffic = More Commissions!

A few of the easier ways to help your brand stand out is by creating your own unique logo, site color schemes, and images/videos (visuals) that are only found on your site.

And that are semi relevant to the affiliate marketing niche you are getting started in.

There are a wide assortment of plugins you can choose from that will help make this step much easier on you and make your site a more pleasant experience for your visitors.

Basically just remember that the affiliate website you are creating is not for you to look at but instead a tool for your users to find what it is they need to make their life better.

So, as an Affiliate Marketing newbie just starting out, do your best to always keep your target audience (visitors) in mind and all these other steps will come fairly easy.

Affiliate Beginners Guide Step #4- Creating Quality Content

Step #4 of this Affiliate Marketing Guide is about creating quality content relevant to your niche and niche audience.

Content creation is something that takes a lot of research and should be done on a regular basis by finding keywords that are not only relevant to your niche but also are phrases that your target audience are searching for the most.

This way you keep up with your audience and up to date with a constantly evolving niche.

When getting started creating content it’s a good idea to research what the top competing sites are doing to rank highly or keep their audience engaged.

After you have a good feel for what the big dogs are doing then do the same to a certain degree but with your own unique spin on it.

Of course you’re also going to want to ensure that you are not coping any of their content to your site.

It’s one thing to get an idea from them but it is a complete other to copy exactly word for word what they are doing.

Doing this will result in your website getting penalized and not getting ranked in search engines.

That and it’s just flat out wrong to do.

When creating content the most important thing to remember is that people are visiting your site in hopes that you can help them solve a particular problem.

So write your articles for them (Do Not Write A Sales Pitch).

Yes, I know I said it twice but it is important enough that it should be mentioned twice!

The more knowledge you can accurately provide your audience the more likely they will trust your recommendations.

So it would behoove you to make sure you do your homework on whatever it is you are sharing with them because if you earn the trust of the people (Target Audience) than they’ll be more inclined to make you their last stop before buying.

AKA, the end of your sales funnel.

After all that is what affiliate marketing is all about… Commissions!

All the more reason for picking the best online training courses when learning about how to create quality content for your affiliate marketing business.

To help you learn how to be successful as an online affiliate, as well as a few marketing tips and tricks to give you a leg up on the competition, I thought I would introduce you to the very same Bootcamp Course that taught me how to get started and succeed.

Now there are all kinds of training resources like this one so be sure to check out a few before enrolling yourself in this bootcamp course or any other training site.

Step #5- Signing Up For Affiliate Marketing Programs & Using Affiliate Links

In this step we’ll be signing up for affiliate marketing programs that will compliment the actions you took in steps 3 and 4 of this affiliate marketing beginners guide.

Then after we have our programs we can get to the good stuff and use our new affiliate link/s to start making money via affiliate marketing style.

Or so we hope!

There is a lot of trial and error that goes along with learning how to start affiliate marketing as a beginner on your own.

Sorry about getting blown off course there but I don’t want you thinking this is going to be some kind of plug and play process that will come easy to everyone.

First things first, you need to pick an affiliate program that will be a good fit for your website and that is relevant to your niche.

After you’ve found a program, that best suits you, you’re going to need to provide them with a little bit of information by filling out an affiliate request form.

So you’re not surprised by it, they will be asking for info that is normally asked of by employers or financial institutions. (ie your bank)

The approval process usually takes 24-48 hours but note that there are some that will accept you instantly upon filling out the request form.

After you have been accepted you will need to get your affiliate link.

If you have joined a program that offers multiple products, like Clickbank, you will get a different link generated for each product.

How To Get Started Affiliate Marketing For Beginners

Just be sure that each product or program you’re going to leverage on your website is relevant to both your site and niche.

Before we get to learning how to insert our new link, into our quality content, we need to make sure that the link we’ve just gotten works.

Easiest way of doing this is by copying and pasting your link into an incognito browser tab and hitting enter.

If your link should take you to the affiliate product page and somewhere on either that page or the checkout page you should see your affiliate id and/or your affiliate credentials.

If so than you’re good to go.

Now that we know our link works it’s time to plug it into relevant places within your pages or posts.

Just be sure you don’t go overboard and get to link happy because this can and most likely will end up with that piece of content not being indexed or it loosing some of the ranking it had built up in search engines.

Step #6- Generating And Driving Traffic

You’re now to the part of this Affiliate Marketing Beginners Guide where you can begin making money with affiliate marketing.

If you only had people stopping by and paying attention to your site, that is!

Good News, that is what this step is all about…

Generating and driving traffic!

Lets find out how you can get some clicks thrown your way so you can stat making money off of your shiny new affiliate link.

Learn Affiliate Marketing Step By Step For Beginners

To do this you need to promote your site through a variety of different other channels until you start getting some traffic from Google and other search engines.

  1.  One way to do this is by sharing your website socially such as with Facebook, Twitter,  Google+, or Pinterest.
  2. Another way to promote your site by writing and posting articles in article directories like Street Articles or Yahoo answers and leaving a link to your site in the box labeled resources.
  3. Finding forums that are related to your niche and leaving helpful comments to people’s questions with a link to your site or affiliate link. The more you can help folks the more your name gets out and the more likely they will find your money links.
  4. You could also use PPC marketing and buy your traffic from sites like Fiverr but this way can easy cost you a small fortune and could end up delivering empty traffic (traffic with no results) to your site.
  5. The most common and effective method is by posting videos (usually YouTube) of detailed results or reviews of the product that you are promoting. The videos you make also have the possibility of ranking highly in the search engines and pulling down loads of free search traffic.

Best Affiliate Marketing Guide For Teaching Beginners

Before we part ways, I want to reiterate that while breaking down this process into easy to follow steps might make it look simple, it won’t always be.

More often than not it will take a consistent motivated effort on your part to even have a chance at success.

However, after you get your site established and have gained the trust of search engines, making money will become much easier.

Not To mention you will finally be able to take a step back to breathe.

You’ll still have to put in the work but at this point, it’s more maintenance than it is building something new.

Now all that is left for you to do is to start taking action on what you learned here.

Unless you are more of a Do It Yourself kind of person…

In which case you need to go track down and sift through every piece of free affiliate know-how you can find so you can get familiar with some of the more advanced intricacies of this trade.

Or just save the DIY stuff for another day and get ahead of the learning curve by taking advantage of some of the training courses I’ve listed here.

I am an content based blogger working on multiple niches with adsense On. It’s been a while that integrating with affiliate market crossed my mind but i was being patient and let my followings and traffic built to a level that it can mature for affiliate marketing. I have the confidence now to state that i have now built up and want to choose a program that can help monetize my socials and webs, i’ve been searching and too much stuff on engines man. However i came across this UK company that is providing all those tools(CMS plugins) at no cost and 100% commission on sales and 80% on socials which caught my attention. If that’s the case than Yes and no. The first 10 lesson class is but to go any further into the more advanced tips and strategies you’ll have to buy into the premium membership.

Which is $19 first month and $49 thereafter.

Hope that was what you meant but if not please feel free to ask again.

    Thanks for stopping by,

  6. robert

Is this a completely free course?

  7. Jason

I won’t be writing about them because I believe they have started to phase out or at least their support team has.

Still a good site to use to write for additional backlinks as long as you don’t have to make any changes after you publish your work.

It works pretty much just like reddit but with a lot less categories to post in and you have a certain number of words you have to have in each article.

It is free though so shoot on over and see what they have to offer there is a link for them inside of this step by step beginners guide.

    Thanks for sharing Ed,

    Hi Jason,

I found this Beginners Guide for Getting Started Affiliate Marketing is a great how-to article. I found the video about How To Write Fast very informative and will incorporate the tips into my writing.
Also, the other points in this Affiliate Marketing Guide For Beginners are extremely important and You presented the steps and how each one affects the process wonderfully.
I’m interested in Street Articles. How does it work? Will you be writing about it in a future post?

  9. Jennifer Etter

This is a great guide with so much detailed information! It is also important to really stress that making money with affiliate marketing takes TIME. Everyone said this to me in the beginning and I heard them and said I would be patient. After a few months though I found myself constantly questioning what I was doing and considered giving up. I can tell you first hand, if you are patient and keep learning you will be successful! Thanks so much for this!

  10. Jason

    Hi Shwana,

Videos in general have become the most important weapon in a marketers arsenal and they conversion rates for them are only going to get better as time goes on.

So, while it is not the only way to market your products or brand it is a tactic that you should at least try to master.

At the very least a strategy that you should familiarize yourself with moving forward.

    Now as for your questions…

I’ve been trying to make a living online for many years now but the early years of my endeavors were for the lack of a better word nonexistent.

About the only thing I could count on when I first started out was that I was going to spend out more than I ever came close to bringing in.

Being that I am hard headed and refuse to fail is the only reason that I am able to reply to your comment now.

In early 2014 I found what I believe to be on of the better, if not the best, affiliate training platform for teaching beginners how to get started in affiliate marketing.

I had a few small success in the early months of 2014 but none as good as it started to get in late 2014 early 2015.

At that time I was finally bringing in more than I was paying out which lead me to be able to make it a full-time gig which I am currently still achieving in 2017.

    As for your next question…

That is not easily answered because there are a lot of variables that have to be weighed in order to give you an honest to goodness response.

The short answer is that there is no one set of metrics to analyze when determining how long it will take for any one person to start making money from affiliate marketing or really making money online in general.

It could be done in as little as a few days if the person knows what they are doing and are willing to spend out the money it will take to advertise their products or brand.

Which can get very expensive very quickly.

To get started in affiliate marketing as a beginner with no investment than you will need to, find out the best way to learn the trade, be willing to invest quite a bit of your time daily, and most importantly have patients, determination and the motivation to succeed.

Then you are looking at anywhere between 8 to 12 months, best case scenario and worst case, well, upwards of a year and a half or longer.

Hope this helped Shwana and if you have any more questions about the best way to learn affiliate marketing for a beginner than leave them below or stop by my contact page and message me there.

Thanks for reading and my apologies for the lengthy reply,

  11. Jason

Absolutely! Videos are and have been growing exponentially as a great affiliate marketing and really all around traffic source.

However, you can get by in an affiliate business without them. It is just a good idea from a marketing and branding stand standpoint to utilize them because the reward can be so much more than the resources used to make them.

In other words they have a fantastic ROI (Return On Investment).

    When done right of course.

When you are in the process of learning affiliate marketing or learning anything new for that matter, it’s a good idea not to try and think too far ahead but instead try to find a course or program that will offer you a step by step instruction guide that you can follow along with.

Preferably one that also gives you some sort of action plan or tasks aimed at building out your website or business.

Whatever your case may be but definitely one that offers steps for you to complete after each lesson on whatever it is you are creating.

Hope this helped answer your questions and if you have anymore do not hesitate to ask.

    Thanks for Reading,

  12. Jason

    Hello other Jason,

There is definately something to be gained by using Google+ when getting started affiliate marketing and for the obvious reasons that you stated.

They own it so they would be dumb not to entice folks to make it there go to social outlet.

As far as reach traffic wise I would have to go with Facebook and twitter as a second but Google+ has to be in your arsenal because of it’s hidden SEO value that Google swears is not the case.

However there have been quite a few case studiesdone on this exact topic with pretty much all of them (Except the one Google did) came up with the same result.

And that is that using G+ does have SEO value around the keywords and keyword phrases that you use when describing your post or article that you created and then shared there.

I hope I was able to make sense of this for you but if not feel free to hit me up on the contact page and we will go into greater detail about G+ and better ways to learn affiliate marketing for beginners.

    Thanks for reading Jason,

    Stop back by soon,

  13. Jason

    Hey, another Jason

What’s up? I really liked how you went in-depth in explaining how to dip your toes into the affiliate marketing pool.

I liked the advice you gave about making sure whatever program you learn from that it offers a free trial. I think if someones program is good they have confidence that a free offer will lead others to want more.

If they just want your money upfront that just means that they have a crappy product and don’t have anything else to offer.

When trying to get traffic it is just great to start by posting to the social media channels. Google+ seems to be the best one since it is owned by Google. And Google is still the king of search. They hold the crown: Not Yahoo, not Bing, not Microsoft. So, I think Google+ is definitely the most awesome. What’s your take on this?

  14. Jason

    Yet bet ya bud!

Matter of fact, I would recommend doing so after you get at least the base structure of your site built.

It would be all around better for your sites SEO to have a .com or .org.

If you need anymore help getting started affiliate marketing or just would just like a few more recommends for the best ways to learn marketing as a beginner than let me know.

    Thanks for stopping by,

  15. Jason

    Hey Tom,
    I appreciate the complement.

Yeah, I know I might have beat that point home quite a bit in this article but I really do believe we need to try and clean up the online space of worthless thin, low quality content.

I get that folks are trying to make a living the same as me but does it really need to be done is such a shady way.

It should at least offer something o\f value other than just regurgitated duplicate sales pitches.

I don’t know maybe it’s just me but I’m fed up with all of the spam and content scrapers diluting my stuff to the piont it starts to blow back on me.

Sorry about that, I started to rant a bit.

Anyways, Thanks for coming out and giving us a read Tom,

  16. Pam

I love your article, The way you laid it all out makes it sound so simple. Your step by step instructions and explanations are so thorough and complete. But as a new affiliate marketer, while I’m still in the process of learning, is it possible to be successful without doing videos?

  17. Tom

Hi Jason – great article with ALOT of good information. I appreciated how comprehensive you were in explaining affiliate marketing from niche selection to keyword research and how to promote a variety of products.
I checked out street articles as well as I hadn’t used that resource before – you have a nice profile there!
I also agree that it’s good to stress the importance of providing readers with good information rather than just trying to sell. You have encapsulated so much of the WA training in your post and I enjoyed reading it! Best of luck to you Jason!!

  18. Gomer Magtibay

Jason, thank you for this detailed explanation about online business, what is affiliate marketing, how to get started, and how to promote an online business. I really enjoyed reading, and learned a lot.

I noticed you are promoting a free website builder, that got me into thinking. In today’s highly competitive game with regard online business, will that be enough for us to compete with other online marketers?

If I build on that free website builder that you are recommending, is there a way I can transfer it to a domain name of my choice?

  19. Shwana

Great article! You gave a great overview of affiliate marketing from start to finish. I like your idea for the YouTube videos. It’s something that I haven’t tried yet as an affiliate marketer as I am just beginning, so thank you for the info.

How long have you been making your living online and how long does it take before you start to make money?
